Archaeology Festival at Newlin Grist Mill

Call for participation at the Sept 8, 2018 Archaeology Festival at the Newlin Grist Mill!

To representatives from Delaware County’s historical societies, historic sites, preservation organizations, historic architectural review boards and historical commissions, as well as local colleges/universities and local businesses:

I am writing to invite you and your organization to set up a table at the fifth annual Delaware County Archaeology Festival scheduled to take place at the Newlin Grist Mill on Saturday, September 8th from 10 am – 3 pm. The Delaware County Planning Department and Heritage Commission of Delaware County are participating in the event in honor of History Month, celebrated each September to commemorate Delaware County’s rich history.

If you would like to have a table at the festival, you are welcome to display materials that relate to your organization’s archaeological holdings. However, those historical groups whose collections do not contain archaeological materials are still encouraged to set up table displays. We are also looking for volunteers to help with other activities, so if you are interested, please contact us.

If you are interested in participating, please contact us for a form (if you haven't received it by email) and send it to the following email address no later than August 24th: cliffordk@co.delaware.pa.us

Also, please note the following event details that staff from the Newlin Grist Mill asked that we share with participants:

  • Table set-up begins at 8 am and exhibitors are asked to bring all of their materials on the day of the event (no prior drop-offs please)

  • Participants will check in at the table located in front of the Mill’s visitor center

  • Table materials can be dropped off in front of the visitor center but participants must then move their cars. If any table items need to be transported from cars to the exhibition area, the Mill has a gator onsite that can shuttle materials

  • All participants are asked to bring their own tables

  • There is no rain date for the event and it will go on rain or shine. Participants will need to provide their own tents in the event of inclement weather

  • There is no electrical hookup available

  • Participants are welcome to sell items at their tables to promote their organizations but are asked not to ask for donations

  • Please contact Kate Clifford, Planner at the Delaware County Planning Department, with any questions: cliffordk@co.delaware.pa.us. We would be delighted if your organization would like to have a table at the festival next month. Thank you very much for your consideration! Very truly yours, Beverlee Barnes, Rebecca Ross & Kate Clifford  Preservation Section of the Delaware County Planning Department
