Charlene Mires from Rutgers University-Camden will demonstrate how to use digital sources to find historic maps, genealogical clues, county records, and other sources to reveal the diverse lives of those who inhabited a building over its lifetime.

For many institutions with collections of local history, the reality is very different from the ideal recommendations for care of artifacts and maintaining storage environments. Don’t be discouraged if you feel that best practices cannot be implemented! This webinar provides guidance on getting started with preservation activities and then improving by using the methods, budget, and resources available. Scenarios for artifact housings--the most significant layer of protection against degradation--will be shared.

Mary Sue Boyle from Mary Sue Boyle and Co. will use an example of a Thornbury House history to demonstrate why it is historic, how it fits into local and national history and how it relates to other historic resources that could contribute to a national register nomination for a national register historic district. She will also touch on what elements are necessary for protection and defense of structures and districts and what communities can do to protect valuable resources.
