On Tuesday, March 26, Dr. Anna Broomall was honored by a PHMC Historical Marker on the campus of Widener University. The event was hosted by a couple of Widener University nursing students, and featured speakers who were involved with the process. The marker was possible because of the Delaware County Institute of Science, the Delaware County Historical Society, City of Chester and Widener University. The speakers were Dr. Julie E. Wollman, President of Widener University; Honorable Thaddeus Kirkland, Mayor of Chester City; Dr. Kathleen Hornberger, Associate Professor at Widener University and Delaware County Institute of Science; and Dr. Philip Zimmerman, Commissioner at PHMC.
A number of news media were there including 6ABC, CBS3, Delco Times and WHYY. Here is a link to the WHYY article: https://whyy.org/articles/delco-medical-trailblazer-anna-broomall-honored-with-historical-marker/ and here's a link to the Delco Times article:
Both 6ABC and CBS3 did short (30-second) segments. On 6ABC it was on at 5:20 pm, later on CBS3.
I have attached some photos from the event as well as the program from the ceremony. Dr. Broomall was a very important figure in medical and women's history, and was a trailblazer for female doctors in the United States.
Her collection of photographs, scrapbooks and letters are at the Delaware County Historical Society, where she was librarian and curator in the early 20th century. She also helped raise money for the restoration of the 1724 Courthouse in Chester.
