If you are in any historical organization, I'm sure you have come across this question from a member of the public or someone in your organization. People are fascinated with where they live and where they came from, and they want to learn more. Larger town and municipality names are relatively easy to determine- there's an article from Mental Floss about many of the ones in our County- http://mentalfloss.com/article/63447/how-philadelphia-suburbs-got-their-names and Delawarecountyhistory.com has others. But what about the little villages and street names? Are they named after what was there (Village Green, Oak Ln, Palmers Mill Rd, etc) or by a prominent landowner (Booth's Corner, Pennell Rd, Garrett Rd, etc) or by a place it goes to/from (West Chester Pike, Springfield Rd, etc)? Or was it just a whim of a developer to name their streets all after colleges, towns in Ireland, or types of trees? Feel free to share what you know about your street/town/village and encourage others to do the same and maybe we can produce something so that when people ask 'How did ___ get its name?', we'll have an answer for them.
